Sonder

Thoughts captured

SONDER is a visual and material exploration of my realization and my friends during the pandemic. The zine includes drawings and hand-drawn types to add a handmade touch to the printed format.
Description

The visual and material exploration of relationships during the pandemic is the core concept behind SONDER, a zine that explores the complex emotions and experiences of the creator and their friends. Using colored threads, the zine intertwines the various stories and experiences of the pandemic and its impact on relationships. The use of embroidery thread allows the reader to feel the ups and downs of each story, emphasizing the tangibility of the relationships being explored.

Process

The concept of duality is a central theme in the zine, as reflected in the use of orange and green threads to represent the perspectives within each story. Sustainability was also a core consideration, with the zine bound entirely by hand using thread alone, without any glue. The inclusion of hand-drawn typography and illustrations reflects the printed format with a personalized, artisanal quality, emphasizing the deeply personal nature of the project. Furthermore, the use of hand-bound thread not only serves a practical purpose in binding the book together, but also functions as a tangible and visual element throughout the zine, symbolizing the interwoven emotions and experiences of individuals during the pandemic.
