MUTEK is a festival based in Montreal that celebrates digital creativity in sound, music, and audio-visual art. The promotional video for the 2020 edition was a collaborative project between three designers: a graphic designer, a sound designer, and a 3D designer. This collaboration is a testament to the multidisciplinary nature of the festival and its focus on the intersection of sound, music, and audio-visual art.
The final product is a beautiful and innovative project that showcases creativity applied to sound, music, and audio-visual art, which are all at the core of the MUTEK festival. By bringing together artists with different skills and backgrounds, the promotional video embodies the festival's spirit of collaboration, experimentation, and multidisciplinary creativity.
The video explores multiple design forms that are guided by the strengths of each artist. The 3D visual artist, Antoine Morency-Duplentie, created multiple experimental visuals with a futuristic edge to complement the song "Vie 4," which was created by Etienne Dube, the sound designer. Their contribution enhances the visuals, the kinetic typography, and the overall art direction, which was guided by the graphic designer.
The primary objective of the project was to push the boundaries of shape manipulation within the three-dimensional sphere, while also synchronizing the motion design movement with the sound design to create a cohesive and immersive experience. The project aimed to explore the endless possibilities of shape transformation and animation in 3D space, as well as to demonstrate the importance of sound design in elevating the overall impact and emotional resonance of motion design. By seamlessly integrating sound and motion, the project sought to create a dynamic and engaging experience that would captivate and inspire viewers.
